About Adishakti Laboratory for Theatre Art Research
The Adishakti Laboratory for Theatre Art Research is a contemporary theatre research and repertory company based out of a three-acre campus near Auroville. Adishakti, which was registered in 1981 as a charitable trust, is involved in “reviving ancient knowledge and putting it to contemporary use”.
Its major productions include Brihanalla, Ganapathi, The Hare and the Tortoise and The Impressions of Bheema, scripted and directed by its founder Veenapani Chawla; Bhoomi and Rhinoceros by current artistic director Vinay Kumar; and Bali and Nidravatwam by Nimmy Raphel. In addition to developing and showcasing its own work, it reaches out to other performers to evolve their own festivals, workshops, residencies, retreats, seminars and performances on its campus.
