Sur Jahan

Sur Jahan, the annual signature festival of banglanatak dot com, celebrates the unifying power of music in bringing peace. In its 12th edition, Sur Jahan 2025 will be held across Kolkata (31 January to 02 February), Bannabagram (04 February), and Goa (07 to 08 February). The festival features internationally renowned bands Umbra Ensemble (Iceland), Folkcorn (Netherlands), and the Ale Moller Trio (Sweden), blending medieval, folk, and contemporary music with unique instruments.

The Kolkata edition will include the inaugural collaboration of Debojyoti Mishra with folk musicians, Kasam Khan Langa’s soulful Rajasthani desert music, a Baul ensemble led by Kangal Khyapa, Surbandhan’s tribute to Salil Chowdhury, and Folks of Bengal’s presentation of Bengal’s folk music. Odisha’s Durua tribal song and dance will also be a special highlight, alongside traditional handicrafts like Rajasthan’s Applique work, Maharashtra’s Warli painting, Odisha’s Kotpad weaving, and Bengal’s Kantha embroidery. Bannabagram will feature a cultural fusion of international bands with Baul musicians, while Goa will showcase Sonia Shirsat’s Fado, Habib Khan and Sadiq Khan Langa’s Rajasthani folk, and The Ghumat Project, blending Goa’s traditional percussion with contemporary music.

Daytime workshops across all venues will offer insights into musical traditions, instruments, and styles. Evening concerts will run 6 PM–9 PM in Kolkata and Goa, and 4 PM–7 PM in Bannabagram, culminating in grand collaborative performances embodying Sur Jahan’s spirit of peace, unity, and togetherness.
