Body and Lens International Screen(ing) Dance Festival and Seminar
Body and Lens International Screen(ing) Dance Festival and Seminar
Body and Lens International Screen(ing) Dance Festival and Seminar is a “means to boost the undaunted spirit of artists, who have searched and successfully found new avenues to keep their art alive by combining two distinct and yet related vocabularies of dance and film”.
Launched in 2021, the annual two-day digital festival has been providing artists a safe space for experimentation and collaboration through various screenings, talks and discussions. The organisers’ aims have included the creation of a course structure for screen dance/dance for the camera and the propagation of dance film studies in India.
Dancers and choreographers such as David Outevsky, Mary Wycherley, Rick Tija, Stefano Fardelli, Sumedha Bhattacharyya and Urmimala Sarkar and filmmakers including Ashish Avikunthak, Douglas Rosenberg and Kirtana Kumar, have been part of the first edition of Body and Lens. Curator Fai Cheung and festival producer Sanjoy K Roy have been the eminent personalities who participated at the festival’s panel discussions.
