Teamwork Arts is delighted to present the Fourth edition of Sleepwell Presents The Sacred Amritsar. A festival of verse and the poetic imagination, The Sacred Amritsar celebrates Amritsar’s history, culture, and innate spirituality. The inaugural edition of the festival was celebrated in Amritsar in March 2023. Held in partnership with Sleepwell, The Sacred Amritsar is a tribute to the timeless verse of mystic poets who have articulated emotion, longing, and devotion through the ages. The Festival is also an ode to the Golden City of Amritsar, a destination where the sacred and the secular intertwine, where the medieval Bhakti and Sufi poets wandered several centuries ago, singing songs of love, happiness, bliss, and separation. Amritsar’s historical venues echo tales of sacrifice, resilience, and a relentless pursuit of freedom as they bear witness to sombre moments in history - from Sri Harimandir Sahib, also known as the Golden Temple, to the Partition Museum - and at the city’s heart lie the friendliness and generosity of its people. The Sacred Amritsar aims to bring peace - a state of zen that comes from the sense of purpose and restfulness that poetry exudes - from the verses of Kabir and Amir Khusrao, the words of Sahir and Amrita, to the classical music of Kumar Gandharva and the Banaras gharana. This is reflected in the Festival’s association with Sleepwell Foundation which embodies “emotional wellness,” as alongside art and poetry, it is within the realm of sleep that we discover nourishment for our minds, bodies, and souls.
