Barmer Folk and Handicrafts Festival
Barmer Folk and Handicrafts Festival
The Barmer Folk and Handicrafts Festival showcases and promotes the plethora of traditional cultural practices in the district of Barmer in Rajasthan. These include the folk music of the Langa and Manganiyar communities and handcrafted tradition of jutti and kasidakari shoe making.
The inaugural edition of the event provided an opportunity for attendees to witness performances by and interact with folk music maestros from the region such as Asin Khan, Bhunger Khan, Deu Khan, Gafur Khan, Meheruddin Langa, Multan Khan, Nek Mohammed and Samsu Khan. There were stalls for intricately embroidered products from jutti and kasidakari craftspersons.
The festival was organised as part of a collaborative initiative of the Department of Tourism, Government of Rajasthan and UNESCO to strengthen the intangible cultural heritage of western Rajasthan.
