Studio Safdar
An independent, non-funded space for arts and activism
About Studio Safdar
New Delhi-based Studio Safdar, named after playwright Safdar Hashmi and run by the Studio Safdar Trust, is an independent, non-funded space for arts and activism. Established in 2012 by the Jana Natya Manch (Janam), one of India’s leading political street theatre groups, Studio Safdar’s aim is to provide an alternate and affordable venue for staging and experimenting with the performing arts.
The venue supports activism that explores multiple intersections of communities and politics. It hosts performances by independent theatre groups from New Delhi and across the country and also runs weekly film screenings and a Sunday morning library for local children.
