Shift – Art & Design Festival
The Shift – Art & Design Festival, started in 2021, brings together artist collectives, independent creators, performers and art enthusiasts to foster expression and collaboration and strengthen Jaipur’s art scene. Talks, walks, demonstrations, workshops and performances have been at the forefront of the activities held at the festival, which is usually held four times every year, in October, November, December and February.
Highlights of the last edition, in October 2022, included workshops on fragrance making, macrame and origami; a Rajasthan folk dance circle by the Jaipur Virasat Foundation; magic and puppet shows for kids; an open mic session and a concert by singer-songwriter Rahgir.
Among the speakers at the last instalment of the festival were Kavita Chaudhary and Nand Kishore Chaudhary, the design director and founder of Jaipur Rugs respectively; Ritnika Nayan, founder of independent music consultancy firm Music Gets Me High; and Sukanya Agarwal, founder of independent music publication A Humming Heart.
The festival has been held in collaboration with AIESEC, Urban Sketchers, Jaipur Virasat Foundation, Eco Femme and ARCH College of Design, Business and Research.

How to Reach Jaipur
1. By Air: Air travel to Jaipur is the most convenient way to reach the city. The Jaipur airport is located at Sanganer, which is 12 km from the heart of the city. It has both international and domestic terminals and is well connected to most of the cities across the globe, with a number of airlines operating on a regular basis. Popular carriers like Jet Airways, SpiceJet, Air India, IndiGo and Oman Air have daily flights to Jaipur. Flights to international cities such as Kuala Lumpur, Sharjah and Dubai are also connected from this airport.
2. By Rail: You can travel to Jaipur by trains such as Shatabdi Express, which is air-conditioned, very comfortable and connects Jaipur to many important Indian cities such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Jammu, Jaisalmer, Kolkata, Ludhiana, Pathankot, Haridwar, Bhopal, Lucknow, Patna, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Goa. Some of the popular trains are the Ajmer Shatabdi, Pune Jaipur Express, Jaipur Express and Adi S. J. Rajdhani. Also, with the advent of the Palace on Wheels, a luxury train, you can now enjoy the royal splendour of Jaipur even when you are on the move.
3. By Road: Taking a bus to Jaipur is a pocket-friendly and convenient option. The Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) runs regular Volvo (air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned) and deluxe buses between Jaipur and other cities within the state. When in Jaipur, you can board the bus from Narayan Singh Circle or the Sindhi Camp bus stand. There is a regular service of buses from New Delhi, Kota, Ahmedabad, Udaipur, Vadodara and Ajmer.

Items & Accessories to Carry
1. The weather during October tends to be hot as average temperatures vary between 22° C and 33°C with three to eight days of rain. Take loose and airy cotton clothes with long sleeves to tackle the hot weather.
2. An umbrella, if you happen to get caught in a sudden shower.
3. Walking shoes. As the festival is typically spread out in multiple locations, comfortable footwear such as trainers are a good option.
4. A sturdy water bottle.
5. COVID packs: Hand sanitiser, extra masks and a copy of your vaccination certificate.
