Majuli Music Festival

MMF is re-writing the stories of hope for the disappearing island by:
• Bringing attention to Majuli – the largest riverine island in the world that is disappearing!
• Preserving and promoting Majuli’s rich cultural heritage by way of offering curated exposure visits/homestay experiences to the audiences and bring attention to revisit the UNESCO status for the island.
• Promoting and supporting local livelihoods and artists, especially the youth by injecting over INR 30 Lakhs into Majuli’s local economy each year. Under its initiative—the “Majuli School of Music”— the festival will offer a platform to budding young musicians.
• It is a “Zero-Waste” festival. All resources other than sound/light are locally-sourced. The venue is community owned; the infrastructure of the venue is all bamboo-based; earthen pots, woven banners/clothes, food/drinks etc are all from the community itself.
• 70+ youth volunteers lead the festival. Almost every household capable of contributing, comes forward and contributes to the festival. Every year the roads/potholes are repaired through a community-led process.

What to look forward to:
Artists/band performances, art & craft exhibitions, forest bath, tribal homestays, local cuisines, visiting monks from Satras (Vaishnavite monasteries), camping under the stars, adventure activities, traditional dance troops, traditional wine tasting, local shopping of masks, attires etc
