About Publishers & Booksellers Guild

The Publishers & Booksellers Guild was founded in the year 1975. It has since grown to become “one of the premier forums of the country’s book world”. The guild seeks to promote “reading habits amongst the people and extending help to the publishers and booksellers in the successful pursuance of their trade”. One of the primary activities undertaken by them to this end has been organising the International Kolkata Book Fair every year.

The Guild, a social organisation, helps people in need “become part of a real community… by providing a forum to exchange ideas and resources”. It also provides smaller companies with the resources to make a wider impact in society.
